About:

The dig pink event is something that has continuously grown within our school community over the last 5 years. We donate 100% of the proceeds to the national “side out Foundation” which has the following website https://side-out.org/dig-pink/ . The volleyball program makes shirts each year, they wear pink socks, pink masks, pink headbands, etc. and the gym is decorated with posters and streamers. Any donations are welcome at the door, along with the sale of various items, and snacks. It has grown to the point where girls soccer also participates (kick pink) with pink uniforms, pink lines, and they accept donations as well. We are a small school of around 450 students but have raised between 500-1,000$ each year.

———————————————————————

The entire JV and Varsity teams assisted in setting up and contributing to raising funds. That is roughly 23 girls combined. In total, I’d say we dedicated about 15 hours over the course of the month of October to prepare our night with posters, decorations, team t-shirts, setting up and selling bracelets to our families, friends and fellow peers. Our girls throughout the month of October sold pink bracelets purchased through Amazon and while selling spoke a little about where the money would go which is the Side-Out Foundation. We raise funds for the Side Out Foundation and have done so with the exception of last year because of COVID restrictions. In past years we would announce a little backstory of the foundation to our general assembly of students (however, COVID prevents us from meeting as a large group and having our entire population) so it was just announced through a virtual assembly this year with our entire student population. For the past couple of years we have donated to them because they seem to be very involved with both finding a treatment and donating to research for metastatic breast cancer. I do know that the Side-Out Foundation was inspired by and created and founded by a previous volleyball coach. You can get more backstory here – https://side-out.org/foundation-news/the-side-out-story/
In addition more information from their website: “The Side-Out Foundation helps people with breast cancer regain control of their lives – and we started our fundraising efforts through the sport of volleyball. Our Executive Director and Founder, Rick Dunetz, was a high school volleyball coach when his mother, Gloria, was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer. Together he and his father, Bryant, decided to tell her story, and the story of all those with metastatic breast cancer, through dedicated volleyball matches across the U.S., where communities would rally and fundraise to support breast cancer research. This is how Dig Pink was born – and it is still a central program of The Side-Out Foundation.”
