About:
On Saturday, October 4th, the Chelmsford High School Girls Soccer team hosted a special Breast Cancer Awareness game, inviting the community to rally behind the Lions on the field.
But the day was about much more than just soccer. The players, families, and fans came together with a shared purpose: raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research. All proceeds from the day’s events were donated to The Ellie Fund, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting breast cancer patients and their families.
Leading up to the game, the Lions created flyers to promote the cause, spreading the word throughout the school and on social media. A Venmo donation link allowed those unable to attend to still contribute, ensuring that the effort reached beyond the sidelines.
On game day, both the JVA and Varsity teams played back-to-back matchups against Westford Academy, with both teams wearing pink jerseys in honor of the cause. The stadium was decorated by the Chelmsford players, transforming the field into a symbol of hope and solidarity. Parents and families supported the initiative by donating baked goods and running a bake sale during both games. Leftover treats were then brought to the school’s Pumpkin Palooza later that day, extending fundraising efforts even further.
The atmosphere was filled with compassion, community, and school spirit—showcasing the power of athletics to make a difference beyond competition. Events like this highlight the important lessons that sports can teach student-athletes: empathy, leadership, and service.
By coming together for a cause that touches so many lives, the Chelmsford Lions proved once again that their impact reaches far beyond the field.
