About:

we had just about 200 boys and girls total on our indoor track team (during the Fall 2 season).
We joined up with Billy Nash of Custom Fundraising Solutions.  Usually we sell mattresses (believe it or not) to raise money for our program, however that is not Covid friendly.
When the kids heard that if they sold socks they could raise money for the team AND earn socks to donate to a charity of their choice…they jumped at the chance.
We sold a lot of socks – and then had 400 pairs of thermal socks to donate.  Originally, we were going to divide them up between three charities, however our kids picked Michael Gorman’s organization because of what he does (and he has local ties).  We actually donated all 400 pairs to The Movement Family.
Michael is an amazing young man (son of our town’s Youth Services program).  His organization does a meal every Wednesday night for the homeless in Lawrence…and additionally provides some basic necessities for their survival on the streets.  We heard that socks were the number one requested item from people who were on the streets…so this was a no brainer.

We love to call our track program a Track Family – sounds cliché, but it’s so true.  I absolutely love our kids because they understand how important it is to make people feel welcome (from day one) and make a positive impact on as many people they can.  Some may not join the team with that expectation, but it is certainly something that most of them leave with.
