About:
The Danvers High School community recently came together on January 23rd for a special evening supporting two impactful causes: Morgan’s Message and Best Buddies. These initiatives highlighted the basketball team’s dedication to fostering awareness, inclusivity, and support both on and off the court.
Before the game, team members shared a few words about Morgan’s Message, an organization devoted to breaking the stigma surrounding mental health in athletics. Donations were collected throughout the evening, giving the community an opportunity to contribute to this important cause and help raise awareness about the mental health challenges faced by student-athletes.
At halftime, the focus shifted to celebrating the incredible work of Best Buddies. A senior captain, who has been actively involved in the program throughout her high school career, led the effort to shine a spotlight on this group. The Unified Basketball team, part of Best Buddies, took center stage during a halftime knockout game, receiving well-deserved recognition for their efforts and contributions.
The event was a powerful example of the role sports can play in bringing people together for meaningful causes. By supporting Morgan’s Message and Best Buddies, the Danvers High School basketball team demonstrated their commitment to building a culture of compassion, understanding, and unity.
The girls this year have also been very active in other programs and causes. Coming up on February 9th, for the third year in a row, both Varsity and JV teams—along with a friendly challenge to the hockey team—will be jumping into the ocean at Lynch Park to combat homelessness.
