About:
The Dedham Girls Varsity Hockey program made a meaningful impact this season by using its platform to raise awareness and support important causes affecting students, families, and the broader community.
Earlier in the winter, the team hosted an Active Minds Mental Health Awareness game, bringing together players, students, and supporters to promote conversations around mental wellness and the importance of creating a supportive school environment. The event helped foster understanding while encouraging students to look out for one another both on and off the ice.
In addition to their mental health advocacy efforts, the Dedham hockey programs also participated in several “Hockey Fights Cancer” initiatives throughout the season. Special awareness games were organized to raise funds and provide support for families impacted by cancer, including a charity matchup benefiting Tommy’s Place, an organization that helps create memorable experiences for children facing cancer.
Community members were invited to take part through raffles, chuck-a-puck fundraising activities, and voluntary donations, helping transform game nights into powerful opportunities for service and connection. Players wore themed jerseys and worked alongside coaches, families, and supporters to help raise awareness and encourage community involvement.
Through their leadership and dedication, Dedham Girls Hockey demonstrated how athletic programs can extend their impact beyond competition by advocating for causes that matter. Their season-long commitment to both mental health awareness and cancer support reflects the values of empathy, teamwork, and community responsibility that define the program.
Efforts like these continue to show how student-athletes can inspire positive change and use the power of sports to make a lasting difference.
