About:
The DHS Active Minds Club recently hosted its March Mindfulness 3v3 Tournament, a dynamic event that blended basketball with mental health awareness. Inspired by March Madness, this tournament wasn’t just about competition—it was a powerful initiative aimed at fostering mindfulness, well-being, and open discussions on mental health among students.
As a chapter of Active Minds, a nationwide organization dedicated to promoting positive mental health and reducing stigma, DHS took this event to the next level by partnering with KyleCares, a nonprofit that funds teen mental health programs. Thanks to this collaboration, all tournament proceeds will directly support resources for adolescent well-being.
With just under two months to organize, student volunteers worked tirelessly to make the event a success. The tournament saw 20 volunteers and about 70 players, creating a fun and supportive atmosphere where students not only competed but also engaged in important conversations about self-care, resilience, and mental health advocacy.
Looking ahead, the club hopes to make the March Mindfulness Tournament an annual tradition, refining and expanding the event to have an even greater impact. Their efforts have already proven that sports and mental health awareness can go hand in hand, creating a lasting influence on their school community.
A huge thank you to all the students, volunteers, and supporters who made this event possible. DHS Active Minds continues to lead the way in fostering awareness, empathy, and support—and we can’t wait to see what they do next!
