About:
This fall, Student-athletes at B.M.C. Durfee High School are proving that the impact of athletics extends far beyond the court.
During a recent matchup against Brockton, the Durfee Girls Volleyball team hosted a Mental Health Awareness Game—using their platform to shine a light on an issue that affects so many student-athletes today.
In partnership with KyleCares and Active Minds, the team created an environment centered on support, awareness, and connection. The message was simple but powerful: You Matter.
A standout moment of the evening came from team captain and DurfeeCares member Riley Currin, who addressed those in attendance before the match. Her words helped set the tone for the night—encouraging open conversation and reminding others of the importance of checking in, speaking up, and supporting one another.
Events like this highlight the true meaning of education-based athletics. By stepping into leadership roles and advocating for mental health awareness, Durfee student-athletes are helping to break the stigma and create a culture where everyone feels seen and supported.
More than just a game, this was a moment of unity—bringing together athletes, students, and the community around a shared purpose.
