The Duxbury Gridiron Board selected the New England Chapter of the Karen Wellington Foundation to be the beneficiary based on its mission of helping brighten the lives of women fighting breast cancer, the fact we could keep the money local, and being able to get references directly from recipients who shared the positive impact a grant from the Foundation made on their lives and that of their families.
Research and interviews of recipient’s was done by the Board’s Co-Chairs in charge of overseeing the fundraiser. The Duxbury Football Team assigned players to sell the shirts during lunch periods which was generously supported by the entire Duxbury Community. A game was designated to be the Go Pink Celebration and students were encouraged to wear their shirts (or anything pink) to that game in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The charity sent a recipient to accept the check which was presented at half-time of that game.
