About:
We wanted to shine a positive light on our boys lacrosse program and what they’ve been up to over vacation. We’ve had a busy week playing Medfield on Tuesday and then preparing for the #1 team in the state, St John’s Prep, who we will play on Saturday. Prior to practice Wednesday afternoon, our varsity team was able to carve out time to do some community service around town. The varsity team volunteered at the Franklin Senior Center where they were dispersed to different locations throughout town to do light lawn clean up for some senior families in our community. This upcoming weekend both our JV teams will take part in Earthy Day cleanup for the Franklin Rec Dept..
We think it’s important for us to recognize our student athletes for academic and athletic achievement, as well as how they serve within their community. We were proud of these boys for coming together to volunteer on one of their vacation days and the families they helped were super appreciative. Below is one of the thank you emails we received from a Franklin family.
“We are grateful to Sandra Galvin who coordinated these community service events on behalf of the Boosters.
Sandra,
Thank you for contacting and scheduling the yard work community project and for giving us your contact information so we could express our thanks. We are so grateful to the lacrosse team volunteers who did yard work for seniors as a community service. We really appreciate all the effort and work done.
We are very fortunate to live in Franklin where people care for others. The volunteers were very responsible, respectful, polite, and friendly. They worked hard and did a fantastic job. Our yard looks so much neater with the underbrush removed. They truly outdid themselves! As you can see from the photos, they really got into doing the job! (Due to volume, separate emails will be sent with the photos.)
Would you please pass on our sincere appreciation to the lacrosse team, coaches, and coordinators. We are extremely pleased with the job done and grateful to all of you for coordinating this event and volunteering.
Thank you so much!!
The Taynes
(Barbara, Kathie, and Liz)
P.S. Good luck in the upcoming lacrosse season!”

We had all 3 of our teams set up for community service but due to rain the Sunday group had to be cancelled. They are hoping to find another opportunity to volunteer before the season ends.
Wed 4/19 Varsity team volunteered with Franklin Senior Center. They let families know about the service in community newsletter that went out the month prior. We had 100% team participation of 28 boys. They broke up into teams and were given 9 addresses across town that were looking for lawn cleanup. Hours were 10am-12pm, some went a little past noon.
Saturday 4/22 our JV2 team (comprised of mostly freshmen) reported to Beaver St. field in Franklin to assist the Franklin rec dept with Earth Day cleanup. They were dispatched to another place in town to clean up as a group. We had 13 players show (5 were missing due to vacation, and 3 were playing in JV1 game). The hours were 9-10:30/11am.
Our JV1 team, which consists of 20 players, has rescheduled their earth day cleanup for 5/7. I would expect that to last a couple of hours with entire team contributing.
Ideally we like to plan community service over April Vacation when their schedules are a bit lighter than during the school week. (Information Provided by Kathy Davis FHS Boys Lacrosse Boosters)
