About:

We have 33 players among 3 teams in our volleyball program.  For the JV & Varsity home game against Ipswich, October 25th, the program, with support from the boosters, held a Breast Cancer Awareness & Research night.  This event raised $500 to be donated directly to the ESSCO-MGH Breast Cancer Research Fund.  Players helped decorate the gym, encouraged fans to attend the event and wear pink.

A well known and loved elementary teacher in our district for over 30 years, recently shared her experience with a breast cancer diagnosis and information about her treatment.  She was invited as the Guest of Honor to the game on Monday, but wasn’t able to make it due to her treatment schedule.  Junior Hannah Ciriello shared this teacher’s story with the crowd along with information about the research fund.  The program was proud to be able to honor and show support for her as a Cancer Warrior, along with a Together We Fight banner where attendees could write the names of anyone in their lives who had been affected by breast cancer.

The program has partnered with a local ice shop for a fundraiser Wednesday night where a percentage of the proceeds will be donated to the ESSCO-MGH Breast Cancer Research Fund as well.

During the entire month of October, the teams have been wearing pink warm up jerseys, socks and hair ribbons to show their support.  The players decorated and cleaned up the gym for the fundraiser last night.  They also shared social media posts and reached out to other HW teams for their support at the game.  It was wonderful to see football, field hockey and soccer out supporting the cause.
