About:
The Gloucester High School Cheerleading Team recently spent a day volunteering at The Open Door, and their dedication left a lasting impression.
The day began with a guided tour of the facility, where the team learned about the history of The Open Door food pantry and the wide range of services it provides to the community. From helping local families access nutritious food to offering programs that support healthy living, the experience gave the students a deeper understanding of the important role The Open Door plays in the area.
Then, it was time to roll up their sleeves and get to work!
According to Bo Abrams, The Open Door’s manager, the cheerleaders’ efforts were nothing short of amazing. The group assigned to bagging fish packed an incredible 600 pounds of frozen cod fillets. At 2 pounds per bag, that’s enough to provide 300 families with delicious and nutritious meals.
Meanwhile, another group assembled more than 400 spice packets—some of which will pair perfectly with those cod fillets. Their teamwork, energy, and attention to detail ensured that each packet was prepared with care.
“We were really impressed with the Gloucester High Cheerleading Team’s teamwork,” Bo shared. “Your student athletes were amazing!”
Team Up 4 Community is proud to highlight the generosity and dedication of these student athletes. Their hard work is helping put healthy meals on the tables of hundreds of families in need—proving once again that when young people come together to serve, the impact is powerful.
