About:

Our food drive was a program wide initiative. We had 41 players in our program this season. This is the second season we collected canned goods for our local food pantry. The food drive was organized by our booster club.
This year we asked players/families to make a donation of either non-perishable food items or cash donations which we used to collectively donate holiday food baskets at our end of season banquet. The baskets provide a holiday meal for a local family on the north shore, additional information attached. Our captains arranged a drop off with the Open Door. There really was not a time commitment as we did not ask players to go out and gather donations outside of their immediate families.
The Open Door is a local food pantry in Gloucester, MA whose mission is to alleviate the impact of hunger in our community. They have a variety of programs and ways to help various populations in the local community. As a result they have had a significant impact in our community. Community Impact Information.  We selected this organization because it is local and our goal was to give back directly to our community. One program goal is to represent yourself, your family, your school, and your community with both your play on the field and your actions off the field, so this organization seemed to be a good fit for that goal.
