About:
The Groton-Dunstable Cross Country team brought their energy and enthusiasm to the annual Baystate Marathon, volunteering at the 12.4 and 22.6 mile water stops to support runners throughout the race.
Athletes and coaches spent the day handing out water, cheering on participants, and keeping spirits high as thousands of runners pushed toward the finish line. Their encouragement and teamwork helped make the event a success while showcasing the importance of giving back to the larger running community.
Volunteering at the Baystate Marathon has become a meaningful tradition for Groton-Dunstable XC, reminding student-athletes that the values of dedication, teamwork, and perseverance extend far beyond competition.
Through their efforts, the team continues to embody what it means to lead with service, supporting others, celebrating community, and spreading positivity every step of the way. This year marked their fifth year volunteering at the event, a milestone that reflects their ongoing commitment.
“It’s more than just handing out water and Gatorade to the athletes,” shared Coach Volante. “We all bring our own words of encouragement to help the runners push on and do their best. We see them twice at 12.4 and 22.6 miles and hope they look forward to hearing those words of encouragement the second time, just a few miles from the finish.”
