About:

Hingham had 33 players plus coaches participate in raising money. I’d estimate Marshfield had 27 players plus coaches.

The Hingham players bought in quickly and through the Hockey Fights Cancer website set up there own link for donations that accumulated under their own name but also added to the team overall total. It became a bit competitive amongst the players as to their totals and everyone participated. Hingham raised $21,357.

The fundraising lasted about 2 weeks and donations are still filtering in. The players sent emails and texts out to family and friends and the response was tremendous.

Here’s a link to a story in local paper   https://www.hinghamanchor.com/hingham-and-marshfield-raise-over-30k-for-hockey-fights-cancer-next-stop-fenway-park/

Coach Connolly and I are good friends and we both like to get our kids involved in some sort of community service during the season. This opportunity was a good one because everyone knows someone who’s had cancer. Locally, we have been involved with JD55 (Jack’s Drive 55) https://www.jacksdrive55.org/ which is a pediatric brain cancer initiative for a former Hingham Youth Hockey player who was diagnosed with a brain tumor about 3-4 years ago. Jack Giorgio is doing well today and his dad and their foundation continue to raise awareness and funds. Our players help with their 3v3 hockey tournament in the Spring. Additionally, we have several parents of players on the team who have fought the disease and are cancer survivors so it was a good way to celebrate their successful battle.

The HFC games are coordinated by Brian Casalinova. He has told us our game had the most funds raised in the 10 years of him being involved.
