About:

we had more than 20 athletes from the boys and girls cross country teams volunteering at the Title 9 Triathlon in Hopkinton State Park, coincidentally, it is also the site of our home course. They arrived by 6:30am and started by helping mark competitors numbers on their arms and hands and their ages on their calves. Once we got closer to race start time we were dispersed around the course as course marshalls, making sure all on the running leg were going in the right direction and encouraging them (very enthusiastically in many cases—one boy almost lost his voice!) along the way. They worked until the last triathlete finished, after 11am.
This is actually the second service activity the team has completed this season. 50 athletes volunteered at Community Harvest Project at the end of August, spending almost 3 hours harvesting 1300 pounds of tomatoes then pulling up old mulching plastic.
We have two more planned for now. A large number of the team members will volunteer for WBZ-TV as part of the Spotters’ Network for the Boston Marathon in October. There will also be a Trunk or Treat event in town at the end of October when we will decorate a car or two and hand out candy to the children. If more opportunities to volunteer present themselves, we’re confident that this crew would jump at the chance to help out.
