About:
To do their part, a group of Roanoke Elementary School students spent Sept. 9 washing cars in an effort to garner funds to help a Houston school damaged during Hurricane Harvey.
The PTA-sponsored fundraiser, held at Roanoke Elementary, resulted in the collection of more than $500. All of the proceeds will be used to purchase school supplies for Ripley House Charter School in Houston. The school was selected after Roanoke fourth-grade teacher Jackie Adla mentioned that her cousin, Bethany Sullivan, works as a resource room teacher in the now-damaged charter school.
The Riverhead Central School District students plan to hold additional fundraisers in the future to assist the Texas school.
