About:
On Sunday, September 15th, the Ludlow Girls Soccer team took time off the field to volunteer at the Miracle League of Western Massachusetts at Springfield College. The Miracle League provides children with physical and developmental disabilities the chance to experience the joy of playing baseball, regardless of their abilities, and Ludlow’s athletes were there to make it even more memorable.
The 44 student-athletes from Ludlow Girls Soccer played an active role as “buddies,” pairing up with Miracle League participants to help them hit the ball, field, run the bases, and experience the excitement of the game. With every high-five and cheer, the Ludlow players ensured that the children were not only able to participate but had a fun-filled day. The team assisted in the dugout, kept the lineup running smoothly, and most importantly, spread joy by making sure every player felt like a star.
The event was hosted on Springfield College’s specially designed Miracle League field, which is built to accommodate players of all abilities, creating an inclusive environment where sportsmanship and fun take center stage. The day was a huge success, filled with laughter, excitement, and new friendships formed between the Ludlow athletes and the Miracle League participants.
Coach Amanda Nacsin, whose son Lincoln has been part of the Miracle League for five seasons, shared how proud she was of her team’s enthusiasm. “I’d like to say I pushed my girls out of their comfort zone, but they stepped into the role of ‘Buddy’ with such ease. Their excitement and enthusiasm for each child was palpable, and they’re already talking about coming back next year.” Many of the Ludlow athletes have classmates with varying disabilities, and this experience expanded their understanding of inclusion and kindness.
This was Ludlow Girls Soccer’s third year volunteering with the Miracle League, and their commitment to community involvement continues to grow. Their participation in events like this demonstrates the power of sports to unite people and create lasting, positive impacts. As the day ended with high-fives and smiles all around, it was clear that both the Ludlow athletes and Miracle League participants left with memories that will last a lifetime.
Ludlow Girls Soccer remains an outstanding example of community involvement and compassion, showing that when athletes give back, everyone wins.
