About:
32 student athletes from the Ludlow Girls Soccer program volunteered.
The girls volunteered for 2.5 hours.
Student athletes were paired with Miracle League players, aging from 4-10yo, to help them hit the ball, run the bases, field and throw the ball. The Ludlow athletes helped out in the dugout, making sure the lineups were known and continuously cheered as each child went up to bat. The main job was to make sure all the Miracle League participants had fun.
My son Lincoln has been playing with the Miracle League for the last 3 seasons. Its a program that has given my family so much and I wanted to be able to give back.
My athletes were so excited when I presented the Miracle League as an option for our seasons community service. My team knows the importance of giving back to the community and they believe it is important to treat everyone with respect and kindness.
I’d like to say I pushed my girls out of their comfort zone, but I feel like the girls stepped into the role of “Buddy” with such ease. Their excitement and enthusiasm for each child was palpable and they are already talking about going back next year.
Many of them are in classes with students with varying disabilities so this just helped expand their knowledge and awareness of how to work with, help, and befriend those around them.
