About:
After an unforgettable season on the field, the Masco Football program once again demonstrated that its greatest impact reaches far beyond the final score.
At the team’s end-of-season banquet, players, families, and coaches gathered not only to celebrate accomplishments but also to give back to the community that continually supports them. As part of the evening, the program hosted its third annual food drive to benefit the Boxford Food Pantry at First Church in Boxford, collecting donations to help local families facing food insecurity.
What makes the initiative especially meaningful is the full participation in the program. With approximately 65 families involved in Masco Football, the majority contribute to the food collection effort. At the conclusion of the banquet, the spirit of teamwork continues as players and families come together in an “all hands on deck” effort — grabbing bags of donated items and loading them into vehicles until the work is complete. A smaller group of student-athletes then joins their coach to deliver the donations, helping ensure the drop-off process remains organized and manageable for the pantry’s limited space.
The tradition began several years ago following a powerful moment in the community. While attending church, the coach and his sons heard a pantry volunteer report that resources were running dangerously low just as the holiday season — a time of increased need — approached. Realizing the team’s year-end banquet was only weeks away, the family discussed how the football program could leverage its large gathering to make a meaningful difference.
Within two weeks, outreach was sent to families, and the response was overwhelming. The team provided significant support to the pantry during a critical time. Since then, the food drive has become a cherished annual tradition — a reflection of Masco Football’s commitment to service and community leadership.
In addition to supporting local families, the banquet also serves as a moment of gratitude. Each senior player selects a teacher who has made a lasting impact on their journey and presents them with a customized Masco Football t-shirt as a heartfelt thank-you. The gesture highlights the important role educators play in shaping not only student-athletes’ academic success but also their character and leadership development.
Together, these initiatives showcase a program culture grounded in teamwork, appreciation, and giving back. With the continued support of coaches, families, and educators, Masco Football is developing student-athletes who understand that leadership extends beyond competition and into meaningful community engagement.
Masco Football’s commitment to service is a powerful reminder that the true measure of a season is not only found in wins and losses, but in the values that endure long after the final whistle.
