About:
The first-ever Medfield Girls Varsity Hockey ‘Breast Cancer Awareness’ game was on Saturday night, February 5, 2022. The team raised $1687 in that one evening! Was so awesome! 100% of the proceeds has already gone to MGH Cancer Center in Boston.
This fundraiser was the brainchild of the 2 senior captains, Grenne Campbell and Megan MacTavish. It was something that they discussed wanting to have this season from the very beginning; in August 2021.
The girls designed the jerseys wanting “Warriors” on the front, the breast cancer symbol on the shoulders, and names with numbers on the back. The players wore pink jerseys, pink shoelaces, pink hair ribbons, and decorated their sticks with pink tape.
All of the players hyped this game up at school, at home and on social media.
The girls shopped for decorations and supplies for the event. The rink was all pink with posters, streamers, stickers and balloons. Parents volunteered selling products and baked goods (some made by the players!).
They wore the pink jerseys to school to promote the game. The rink was filled with family, friends and students. It had NEVER been so highly attended.
I would estimate the Grenne and Megan spent 10 hours on this event and add another 3 for all of the team members. Was an incredible night!
I can’t even describe how fun and pumped up the team was for this event. They are an amazing group of girls. They are all about ‘giving back’ to others and their community.
“It was awesome to know that we were raising awareness for such a near and dear cause, but even cooler than that we got to do it playing a game we love. The support was overwhelming and we couldn’t have imagined a better turnout. We are so honored to have had the first of hopefully many breast cancer awareness games for the Medfield High Girls Varsity Hockey Team!” -Grenne Campbell and Megan MacTavish
