About:
The Medway Girls Volleyball program recently turned the court pink for a heartfelt Dig Pink Night, bringing the community together in support of breast cancer awareness. The event served as a platform for raising funds and spreading awareness for this important cause, with fans donning pink to show solidarity with those battling breast cancer.
This year’s event held special significance for the team, as Katie Thompson, the wife of Medway’s Varsity coach, was honored before the game. Katie underwent treatment and surgery for breast cancer during the season, including a double mastectomy just five days prior to Dig Pink Night. Her strength and presence made the evening even more meaningful for everyone involved.
The program’s 35 players across JV1, JV2, and Varsity teams worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the event. In the lead-up, players sold tribute ribbons and t-shirts, while game day featured a bake sale, raffles, and additional t-shirt sales. The team’s collective effort totaled over 10 volunteer hours and raised an impressive $6,210 for the cause.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who supported Dig Pink Night, packing the stands and contributing to the fight against breast cancer. Together, the Medway Girls Volleyball program and its community showed the power of teamwork and compassion both on and off the court.
