About:
” This year’s Breast Friends Walk was very successful! We had over 50 sponsors, almost 550 people walking (including both the girls and boys soccer programs, the girls cross country team, and some of the Melrose football team) and raised over just over $50,000 to be donated to breast cancer patients at MGH Chelsea Healthcare Center.
The money that we donate goes towards breast cancer navigation work and services to help detect and prevent breast cancer in order to save lives.
This was my third year organizing the walk, in the three years combined we have raised about $170,000, and in the 18 total years of the walk it has raised over $500,000 for this cause. A large part of my “why” behind organizing this event is that my own mother passed away from breast cancer in 2019, and while she fought this disease my family experienced an immense amount of support and strength from our community, which made such a terrible time in our lives a little bit easier.
By organizing this walk I feel that I am able to give back and help support people who may not have as generous a community, or the money and resources to get the treatment they need.” – Emily Lucien – Organizer and Senior Athlete
MARBLEHEAD — Melrose High School senior Emily Lucien organized the 18th annual Breast Friends Walk this past Sunday in Marblehead to raise awareness and money to help others that are fighting breast cancer. The funds raised go to MGH Chelsea Healthcare Center to help cancer navigation work that can save lives.
This year’s event raised over $50,000 and had almost 550 walkers.
