About:
I am a senior at MHS who is working on a service learning project with two other students for my Successful Citizenship class. We liked the idea of doing a food drive to help the community, and all of the donations which we collect will be donated to St. Raphael’s food pantry in Medford. It took us some time to figure out how we would complete the food drive since we had multiple ideas, but our teacher Ms. Lanzilli gave us the idea to collect donations at MHS sporting events. I was very excited about this idea since I am a captain on the MHS baseball team, and I thought through my connections we could make this food drive very successful. Mrs. Perry has been a great help to us by promoting the drive on the athletic website, we got in contact with the principal who also sent out our flyer, and the MHS coaches which we are working with spread the word to their players and parents. Ms. Lanzilli is also helping us promote it by offering extra credit to her students who donate to our drive. The sports teams which we are working with include Boys Volleyball, Boys Lacrosse, Girls Lacrosse, and Baseball. We are still in the process of collecting food at the games, and our last game is planned to be April 19th. —Michael Piccolo
