About:
The Milton High School Boys Ice Hockey Program is proving that its impact goes far beyond the rink. Through their inspiring “Hockey for the Homeless” Community Service Project, these student-athletes came together with their community to support those in need—demonstrating compassion, leadership, and unity every step of the way.
A Team Effort for a Greater Cause
Led by Coach Peter Mullen, the Varsity, JV, and Freshman teams—along with coaches, families, and school and rink administrators—joined forces to organize a meaningful drive benefiting C.O.P.E. (Community Offering People Encouragement).
C.O.P.E. serves Boston’s homeless community with dignity, providing home-cooked meals, gift cards, and personalized clothing donations while building meaningful human connections.
The Milton hockey community stepped up in a big way—collecting essential winter items such as jackets, pants, hoodies, socks, and boots, along with raising $500 in donations.
Making a Direct Impact
What made this effort even more powerful was the team’s hands-on involvement. A group of players personally delivered the donations to C.O.P.E., witnessing firsthand the impact of their efforts. Their presence left a lasting impression on the organization’s directors and volunteers, who were deeply touched by the team’s commitment.
So much so that the players were invited to return and take part in an upcoming outreach night at South Station—an opportunity to continue building this meaningful partnership and serve the community directly.
More Than Teammates
This initiative is just one example of the culture within Milton Boys Hockey—a program built on support, respect, and community pride. Throughout the season, the team consistently showed up for others, including filling the stands to support the Milton High School Girls Hockey Team during their State Championship run and lining the streets to celebrate them at their championship parade.
Building a Lasting Legacy
“Hockey for the Homeless” is more than a one-time project—it’s the beginning of an ongoing relationship rooted in empathy and service. The Milton Boys Hockey program has shown that when student-athletes come together with purpose, they can create real, lasting change.
Their message is clear: being part of a team means showing up—not just for each other, but for the entire community.
