About:
The Milton High School Girls Basketball Program brought their community together in a powerful way by hosting a Combined Youth Night and ALS Awareness Event, turning a night of basketball into something truly meaningful.
Led by Coach Charlie Drane, the team organized the special event to raise awareness and support for ALS—a cause that hits close to home, as a beloved mother of a varsity player bravely battles the disease. With players, coaches, and families all involved, the night was filled with purpose, compassion, and unity.
Playing for More Than the Game
The gym was transformed with purple decorations in honor of ALS awareness, and both teams took the court in custom purple warm-up shirts. While the event raised over $500, the greater impact came from shining a light on this degenerative disease and standing in support of those affected.
A True Youth Night Experience
The event also doubled as an exciting Youth Night, creating unforgettable moments for younger athletes in the community. Youth players participated as Anthem Buddies, formed a high-energy fan tunnel, and even took the court for a 4th-grade girls game at halftime—making them an integral part of the experience.
This combination of youth engagement and meaningful cause-driven action showcased the program’s commitment to mentorship, leadership, and community connection.
Leading with Heart
Organized by a dedicated group of student-athletes and role models, this event highlighted what education-based athletics is all about—using the platform of sports to uplift others and create lasting impact.
The Milton Girls Basketball team showed that when you combine passion, purpose, and community, you can create something far bigger than a game.
