About:
Needham Basketball once again demonstrated the power of high school athletics to bring a community together for a cause bigger than the game.
During its annual Coaches vs. Cancer Night, the Rockets rallied students, families, and fans in support of the American Cancer Society, raising critical funds and awareness in the fight against cancer. The event transformed a regular-season matchup into a night of purpose, compassion, and collective impact.
Thanks to the overwhelming support from the Needham community, the program raised $5,446, placing Needham High School among the top fundraising teams in the Coaches vs. Cancer initiative. The effort reflected not only the generosity of those in attendance but also the leadership of student-athletes who used their platform to advocate for a cause that touches so many families.
Coaches vs. Cancer, a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the basketball community, empowers teams to turn game nights into meaningful opportunities to support cancer research, patient services, and advocacy.
By uniting athletics and service, the Rockets showed what education-based sports are all about—teamwork, leadership, and giving back. Their Coaches vs. Cancer Night served as a powerful reminder that some of the most important wins happen off the court, driven by community, heart, and shared purpose.
