About:
A few days a week, we have high school team members volunteer with our booster club to help coach and referee the youth program. To me this is a win-win! It helps the high school players build their self- confidence, public speaking, time management skills, and they see the value in giving back to the community. Meanwhile for the booster club, the youth are inspired by the juniors and seniors. They want to be like them some day! Finally, those that run the practices and games save on costs by having volunteers, instead of having to pay.
It’s not much really, but a little volunteering goes a long way. And it makes a difference in our field hockey community, and you hope that someday it’ll transcend beyond this community and be a gateway to the world at large.
We have about 40 kids in our program and thus far 20 have helped out. They take turns throughout the season but the expectation is everyone helps.
They average about 3 hours a week throughout September and October.
