About:
The Acton-Boxborough Softball program is transforming its May 6th game into something far greater than competition—bringing the community together to support ovarian cancer research while celebrating the next generation of players.
When Acton-Boxborough takes the field against Boston Latin High School, the evening will also serve as Youth Softball Night, creating a meaningful connection between current student-athletes and young players from across Acton and Boxborough. Youth participants will have the special opportunity to join the varsity team on the field during the National Anthem, making for a memorable and inspiring experience.
This event is deeply rooted in the program’s commitment to giving back. Years ago, the team began hosting fundraising games in honor of a coach’s father who passed away from multiple myeloma. That tradition of service continued, and in recent years, the community rallied again after a member of the Acton-Boxborough softball family was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
Today, that legacy lives on. Players, families, and boosters come together each year to support a cause that is close to their hearts. This year, all donations and concession proceeds will benefit ovarian cancer research at Massachusetts General Hospital, specifically the Worden Family Ovarian Cancer Fund.
Despite being a small program of just 24 student-athletes across JV and varsity, the impact is significant. Last year, the team raised over $1,000—an incredible achievement fueled by the dedication of players, families, and supporters. More importantly, the event has become a cherished tradition that brings together current players, youth athletes, alumni, and the broader community.
Throughout the night, players and coaches will wear teal in support of ovarian cancer awareness, turning the field into a symbol of unity, strength, and hope.
Acton-Boxborough Softball continues to show that the game is about more than wins and losses—it’s about community, compassion, and making a difference.
A night to come together, give back, and play with purpose.
