About:
Scituate volleyball players are teaching youth volleyball clinics every Thursday night.
10-12 girls help out regularly with some weeks having as many as 18 players staying to help out
The program runs for 8 weeks in the fall — and between set up, instruction and break down, they are there for up to two hours past their usual practice time. In total about 16 hours of their time.
Some reasons why they do it:
Molly Kate : “ I choose to help coach at the youth volleyball clinics because I enjoy working with kids on new skills, and I like teaching them about a sport I have much love for!!”
Anna: “ I chose to help coach at the volleyball youth clinics because i thought it would be a great opportunity to help fulfill community service hours because I love helping with kids and I have developed a love for the sport since starting and hope to pass it on to the children in the youth clinics!”
MacKenzie: “ I chose to help out with the volleyball youth clinics because I love teaching kids new things, and being a person to look up to. I enjoyed every minute I spent during these clinics and I was so happy seeing the joy on their faces when they were satisfied with their passes, sets, serves, and hits! As the kids started to grow and learn more about the sport of volleyball, I was also able to learn new things too. For example, I was able to learn what things they liked and didn’t like when it came to learning new things. I was so happy when I made the kids laugh because I knew that they were having as much fun as I was. I would dance around with them and make sure that everyone was having a good time, while also introducing new techniques and strategies they could use in their future volleyball careers. I am so happy I had this opportunity to show my love for volleyball with other people, and I can’t wait to do it again! “
