Yesterday’s 5K event is a memorial road race that is in memory of my brother Capt. Gerald F. DeConto, USN who was killed in the Pentagon on 9-11. Since 2002 my family has been organizing this community event and has raised over $105,000. For Sandwich High School Seniors attending college. It is a rather modest event with less than 500 participates each year but is a wonderful community event where students from Sandwich High School volunteer and run, sailors who served with Gerry attend from all over the country, and businesses and others donate time, prizes, etc.
