About:
In a powerful display of gratitude and community connection, the Somerville Highlander Hockey team recently dedicated one of their games to the incredible teachers and staff who have played a meaningful role in shaping their lives.
Each member of the team selected four educators who have made a lasting impact on their personal, academic, and athletic journeys. The evening served as a heartfelt celebration not only of those honored individually, but of all the dedicated teachers and staff members throughout the Somerville Public Schools community.
Special recognition was given to Matt Waldman, Daniel Bachman, Gino Colatuono, and Jim McGrath, whose commitment, passion, and positive influence continue to inspire students every day. Their support both inside and outside the classroom reflects the profound role educators play in helping student-athletes grow into confident leaders.
Events like this highlight the strong bond between athletics and education, reminding the community that success on the ice is often rooted in the encouragement and mentorship students receive in school. By taking time to publicly recognize the professionals who guide them, Somerville student-athletes demonstrated leadership, gratitude, and a deep appreciation for those who help shape their futures.
The night was a meaningful tribute filled with pride, appreciation, and community spirit — a true reflection of what high school athletics is all about.
