About:
What began as a rivalry has grown into something far greater.
The Green Cup has become a powerful annual tradition that brings the Duxbury and Marshfield communities together through hockey, service, and shared purpose. Held each year at The Bog Ice Arena, the Green Cup celebrates the sport at every level—from youth games to Varsity competition—while fostering an atmosphere rooted in pride, connection, and giving back.
Now in its 17th year, the Green Cup stands as a symbol of unity and compassion. Year after year, this event has helped support families through some of life’s most difficult moments. This year, all proceeds from the tournament were donated directly to the Ewell Family.
In 2025, Tim Ewell was diagnosed with colon cancer. His journey has been incredibly challenging, yet he continues to fight with determination, surrounded by the unwavering love of his family, friends, and the hockey community. Hockey has long been a central part of Tim’s life. He was the leading scorer at Rockland High School, where he played alongside current Duxbury head coach Mike Flaherty, before continuing his career at Curry College. Tim is also the proud father of a Marshfield High School hockey alumnus and has spent countless hours at the rink giving back to the game he loves. Through the Green Cup, the hockey community came together to give back to him.
Beyond the on-ice action, the event featured community-driven activities such as Chuck-A-Puck, contests, raffles, and special fundraising initiatives, all reinforcing the heart of the Green Cup. Student-athletes played a central role in carrying on the tradition, understanding that the Green Cup represents something bigger than goals, trophies, or final scores. Coaches, families, volunteers, alumni, and community partners also contributed to making the event meaningful and impactful.
The charitable mission of the Green Cup was supported in partnership with the Cancer Can’t team, an organization founded to bring together people passionate about helping those living with or recovering from all types of cancer. Through raising awareness and hosting fundraising events, Cancer Can’t provides financial assistance and meaningful support to patients and their families. The generosity shown throughout the Green Cup will have a significant and lasting impact on the Ewell Family as they continue their fight.
More than a tournament, the Green Cup is about standing together, lifting one another up, and proving that when a community unites, cancer can’t win. Through sustained commitment, collaboration, and heart, this annual tradition continues to unite two programs—and an entire community—around the values of teamwork, compassion, and service.
