About:
The TMHS Girls Basketball team, along with current and former players, took part in the New England Brain Tumor Walk in Boston to show their unwavering support for their beloved assistant varsity coach, Mike Hayes. Diagnosed with glioblastoma in March 2021, Coach Hayes has continued to serve on the team’s coaching staff while undergoing treatment, and he remains in stable condition.
Team “Hope for Hayes,” which was first assembled last year by Coach Hayes and his wife, raised an impressive $16,604 this year, placing them as the 6th highest fundraising group at the event. The team’s dedication reflects their commitment to assisting patients and families affected by brain tumors, a cause that holds deep meaning for everyone involved.
With over 60 participants, including family, friends, and both past and present Tewksbury Girls Basketball players, Team Hope for Hayes demonstrated the powerful bond that unites the players and their coach. The event, a 5K walk, was not only a fundraiser but also a show of strength and perseverance under the mantra “Breathe, Believe, Battle.”
This year’s participation was especially significant for TMHS Girls Basketball, as they rallied around their coach and contributed to a cause that continues to impact many. Their efforts exemplify the power of community and support, making a difference both on and off the court.
