The baseball team from Waltham High School pleasantly surprised Declan by presenting him with a hat and awarding him the Player of the Game belt. His joyful reaction and radiant smile truly lifted spirits! A heartfelt thank you goes out to Coach Peterson and the entire team for their kindness.
Last Friday, following their opening game victory, the team gathered on the field. Traditionally, a Player of the Game would be chosen after each win and awarded the belt. However, on this occasion, the team unanimously decided to honor Declan. Declan’s father serves as one of the associate principals at Waltham High School and has been on sick leave due to Declan’s circumstances. Declan has spent much of the year in the hospital battling an aggressive form of cancer. Just this past week, he was finally able to return home. Consequently, on Saturday, the team assembled at Declan’s house to present him with the belt. Declan’s journey has been fraught with challenges, and this gesture was a testament to the team’s support for him.
Coach Peterson and his team have consistently demonstrated a commitment to serving their community. They instill in their players the values of gratitude and solidarity, encouraging them to support one another. Numerous teams have reached out to Declan and the Lyon’s family, striving to bring some brightness to their days.
