the entire girls’ basketball program participates which is typically between 25-30 girls each year. This year it is 26 plus three coaches

 the donation page https://raiseyourway.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.event&eventID=624
is shared starting at the beginning of the season on local social media pages and by email by coaches, players, and parents. We share the page with as many people as we can and get it posted wherever, shirts are sold the week before the event at school lunches and on players’ own time. Hard to say the amount of hours but a lot of time goes into planning the event night if we are allowed fans. We decorate the gym with balloons, posters and make it feel special.
9 years ago when I got the head coaching position I suggested to the team captains we pick a cause and the team captains picked Coaches vs. Cancer and donated money to the American Cancer Society to honor their former freshman basketball coach and former Wayland guidance counselor that died a few years earlier from pancreatic cancer at a young age. Ever since we have continued the tradition of having his initials on the shirt (JG).

In the last few years we have raised over $3,000.00 each season.
