About:
The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Boston is an event that the Westwood Girls Soccer Program has been taking part in since before my time as head coach (my 6th season). Our coaches and players from across each of our three teams (Varsity, JV, and JV2) are always thrilled to continue in our support for this important cause. This year we raised over $3,000 for the American Cancer Society, which will be used to help advance research in the fight against breast cancer and provide support to those affected.
Across all three of our teams, all 55 players and 3 coaches participated in the fundraising. The fundraiser was done mostly through our social media for about a month leading up to the walk. The walk and event was an 8 hour day in Boston.
In addition to fundraising, our goal with this event each year is to create awareness among the Westwood community through our social media messaging, “pink” games and events, and by taking part in the 5 mile walk in Boston. I am extremely proud that our athletes recognize the importance of this event beyond just the fundraising leading up to it. Every year they make their presence known in huge numbers and bring a ton of positive energy to help support those currently fighting, survivors, and families of those impacted. As a son of a mother that lost her battle with breast cancer, this is very much a tradition I’m honored to be a part of.
