About:
The Westwood Girls Soccer program has been involved with this campaign for many years now, and in that time our amazing athletes (and families) have raised a whole lot of money and spread a whole lot more awareness to help aid a worthy cause that aims to one day end a disease that has affected way too many of us. In doing so, our athletes have established a beloved tradition of charity and goodwill in our program. As the head coach, as well as someone that has been personally impacted by breast cancer, I am beyond proud to help continue this tradition.
This season, as in seasons past, throughout the months of August and September, we fundraised on behalf of the American Cancer Society while directing our donors attention to the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign. This all led to the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Boston that took place on Sunday, September 25. As a program (3 teams – JV, JV2, and Varsity), we travelled into Boston and took part in the 6+ mile walk, an event that is always a great program bonding experience for our athletes, as well as an eye-opening real life experience in perspective and empathy. Ultimately, we raised over $7,000 this season to aid the efforts being made by the American Cancer Society.

*The amount raised does not yet reflect the donations that were made to our program directly (not through the American Cancer Society site), about $4,000+.
All 60 of the girls in our program (25 – Varsity, 20 – JV1, 15 – JV2) participated in the fundraising aspect of the campaign. 40 players made the trip to Boston for the walk.
The fundraising and awareness-spreading was mostly done through social media and family contacts. The walk day itself was an 8 hour experience.
