About:
As a part of our softball program, I like to make sure that our girls go the extra mile and do a little bit more when it comes to serving their community. As an East Bridgewater resident and EB HS alumni, I tell my girls that when it comes to community service, it also means going outside of our community. Our team is the Whitman Hanson Varsity Softball program located in Whitman/Hanson MA. We do projects in our community, but also make it a point to help out surrounding communities to show our support.
This was our second-year volunteering at the EB VSP Road Race and this year we made sure to kick up the water station one more notch! We had music playing, candy to pass out, waters to hand to runners and walkers, posters made for each participant no matter what age they were and my favorite part, HUGS. I love being able to see my team cheer on people that are from my hometown and community. It’s also amazing to hear the feedback from friends and family members of mine who do this race and praise my girls for keeping the energy electric and helping out for a great cause.
Last year, the Road Race was dedicated to a dear friend of mine who lost her battle with breast cancer, so it was an emotional day for me, but I wanted the girls to see just how a small act of community service goes along way. (information provided by Coach Jordan McDermott)
