On April 26, members of the Wilmington High School Football and Cheer teams participated in a deeply moving tribute to Marine Corporal Edwinson, who was laid to rest 83 years after sacrificing his life at Guadalcanal during World War II.
This solemn occasion was a powerful reminder of the enduring respect and gratitude owed to our nation’s heroes. The student-athletes had the honor of witnessing and taking part in the ceremony that finally brought Corporal Edwinson home.
The teams’ involvement in this tribute highlights the important role athletics can play in fostering community values, patriotism, and honoring those who have served.
