Women’s Tennis Partner With Food & Friends

September 21, 2015 By Team Up 4 Community

On September 18th the University of the District of Columbia women’s tennis team partnered with Food & Friends for a day of service in the community.

The mission of Food & Friends is to foster a community caring for men, women, and children living with HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other life-challenging illnesses by preparing and delivering specialized meals and groceries in conjunction with nutrition counseling. The organization operates six days a week, 52 weeks a year and serves over 2,900 clients in a service area that spans 5,346 miles. Over 3,000 meals are prepared and packaged daily. The Firebirds joined Food & Friends in their kitchen in NE Washington, D.C. and had a blast working together to help get meals out the door.

“Our time with Food & Friends was a great team-building exercise, and it was rewarding experience to help out in the community,” said head coach Dickie Mahaffey. “It was a nice change-of-pace from practice and the weight room.”
