Students in East Meadow School District’s Barnum Woods Elementary School celebrated their efforts in the Kids Heart Challenge with a day of games on Dec. 7.
Formerly known as Hoops for Heart, the program is held in association with the American Heart Association and was spearheaded at Barnum Woods by physical education teacher Deborah Barbato. Students and staff members entered the challenge with a fundraising goal of $5,000, and collected donations through online and in-school programs.
On Dec. 7, each grade came together during different periods to participate in games organized by Ms. Barbato and the physical education staff. The activities served as a thank you to the students for their efforts, as well as an opportunity to bring in last minute donations.
For the second consecutive year, fourth-grader Molly Nadler was the top student fundraiser in the school with $1,200 collected as of Dec. 10. The district congratulates Molly and all the students for helping support a great cause. The district would also like to thank Ms. Barbato for her leadership in organizing this event.
