Members of the Earl L. Vandermeulen High School’s Varsity Club participated in the Town of Brookhaven’s Polar Plunge recently held at Cedar Beach in Mt. Sinai.
The 25 students and co-advisers Deirdre Filippi and Jesse Rosen raised more than $4,500, which will help to sponsor 18 Special Olympics young athletes for the year.
The Varsity Club members annually engage in projects centered around athletics and work to help others while challenging themselves in the process. They also run school-organized events and activities that help to raise money for various service-minded organizations.
The school district thanks Mrs. Filippi and Mr. Rosen and students Joey Aronica,
Emma Batter, Matthew Buonomo, Dante Cangemi, Alex Carlson, Christina Carlson, Kate Carlson, Caitlyn Cobb, Kayla Daily, Luke Filippi, Savannah Florio, Lola Idir, Jenna Jacobs, Lilli Kircher, Annie Maier, Christopher Mark, Anna Matvya, Rose Meliker-Hammock, Angelina Orfino, Abby Rolfe, Cami Spiller, Amy Whitman and Ryan Whiffen for their efforts.
