Throughout November, Elwood-John H. Glenn High School students involved in the community service and Italian clubs have been bringing in brown paper bags filled with non-perishable food items to donate to Long Island Cares Inc. in Huntington Station.
Students were provided with grocery lists and brown paper bags and went shopping for the food pantry. Long Island Cares will donate each bag, stuffed with essentials, to families in need within the community and surrounding areas.
In total, students collected 85 brown paper bags, containing more than 895 pounds of food—the school’s largest food pantry donation to date, according to Italian club and community service advisor Eléna Jersey. “I am proud to say that 85 families will be receiving extra food for the holidays,” she said.
