Garden City High School’s Class of 2021 seniors sponsored a curbside food drive for the Mary Brennan INN soup kitchen of Hempstead on Nov. 21, just in time to bring Thanksgiving meals to those in need. Community members drove through the bus circle and dropped off donations to student and staff volunteers throughout the morning and early afternoon. A truck from the INN was on site to accept the items.
The endeavor was proposed by senior John Scarlata, an ambassador for the INN who expressed that they are in dire need of support. Other members of the Class of 2021 and faculty adviser Allison Moss helped to plan and facilitate the event. Additionally, student Natalie Palmeri spearheaded a mobile food drive in which families could sign up for a day to put their donations outside of their home for pick-up by a student volunteer.
The district is proud of the compassion and generosity demonstrated by the high school students and Garden City community.
