Photo caption: September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and students at Lockhart Elementary School in the Massapequa School District stood up to an illness that affects more than 17,000 children and teenagers a year. From kindergarten to fifth grade, students united to raise awareness on Go Gold Day on Sept. 24. They incorporated gold and yellow into their wardrobes in many ways. Lockhart’s fundraiser was held in honor of “Mighty Madison,” a young girl from Massapequa who was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2019 and has remained in a coma for the past year. Several students wore gold shirts with the Mighty Madison Foundation logo.
