Northport-East Northport students spread positivity through chalk

March 31, 2020 By Team Up 4 Community Leave a Comment

Messages written in chalk have helped many Northport-East Northport families stay positive over the past few weeks while schools are closed. Throughout the community, along sidewalks and driveways, passerby have read messages like ‘Stay positive,” “Love is all you need,” ‘DAS Strong,” and “We got this.” Additionally, many of the messages included drawings of rainbows and hearts.

The illustrations are part of the districtwide “NENPT Chalkwalk” initiative, which has helped families and students maintain a sense of community and connectivity during a time of social distancing. Dickinson Avenue’s #KindnessInChalk event also marked the school’s second virtual spirit day, according to Principal Laurie Storch.

“The #KindnessInChalk initiative, DAS Virtual Spirit Day videos and staff parade into the community represented our way of staying connected as a community,” she said. “The teachers and faculty just wanted to bring smiles to the faces of our students and parents as we all continue to navigate these unchartered territories together. Sharing positive and inspirational messages through creative platforms helps all of us to remain grounded in humankind. Be both-human and kind. Be healthy and be safe.”
