Nokomis Elementary School students are heart healthy this February. Students have raised more than $10,000 for the Kids Heart Challenge. The challenge encourages students to fundraise for the American Heart Association while learning how to take care of their hearts, bodies and brains along the way.
Nokomis Elementary School coordinator Taylor Starr hosted before-school yoga sessions to promote health habits and movement while students participated in the challenge. They started by reciting the mantra, “I am important, I am kind, I am smart, I am strong and I can do hard things.” Students then practiced different yoga poses and breathing techniques to relax their bodies before the start of the school day.
