Every September, the SSHS Well Being Club partners with the Ruchalski Foundation to honor the memory of Mary Ruchalski, a local 12-year-old girl who tragically lost her battle with pediatric cancer. Together, they raise funds and awareness to support the fight against this devastating disease.
Student-athletes from the Well Being Club play an essential role by selling gold lanterns, which are proudly displayed in front of homes and schools during the last week of September. As the town “Goes Gold,” this powerful visual demonstrates the community’s unified support for pediatric cancer awareness.
Athletic teams also take part by wearing gold laces, provided by the Ruchalski Foundation, during practices and games. This small but impactful gesture helps raise awareness and shows solidarity with the cause, further strengthening the bond within the community.
At the end of the month, the Well Being Club will create a collage featuring all the teams who participated, celebrating the collective efforts and contributions to this important cause.
